So I'm about to order a new gaming laptop - likely an Alienware M11x (as it looks like any Ubuntu issues have been worked out, it's small and fast) and was wondering if anyone has any feedback from using an SSD for any length of time?
I know Brian has used one for a while, so what's the 'long-term' verdict?
I'm looking to get the device with 8GB, the Core2 and am just pondering the SSD addtion. _________________ Rg - level 80 Rogue - http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Thunderlord&n=Rg

It makes the machine noticeably faster due to the no seek time. There is still memory loading so not everything is instant (moving data from cache / HD -> RAM & swap).
They have a shorter life time than platter drives, but I don't think you'll hit that wall. The cells can only take so many read/write cycles.
I recommend. _________________
