Sometimes I will work from home, and need to scan a 30 page document into a single pdf file and then email it to my client. What's the easiest way to do this when my OS is Vista Home Regular (or whatever its called), and my scanner is an HP all-in-one?

Thanks,

Dan

Doesn't the HP software have a tool to scan into an PDF? I seem to recall it did in the Mac version. We have a Canon AIO now, and it does.

Yeah, if it's an all-in-one, it should do it automagically; just click on the scan button and do them one page at a time; it should automatically collate and then provide you on-screen instructions for saving.

Alternatively, you could efax it to yourself as a tif file. You could also just make the changes in word/ppt and save it as a password-protected pdf file.

Actually, the machine I have is kind of old, and I guess the software that came with it for scanning isn't so great. I had to do one page at a time, then accept it, and it kept thinking everything was a picture, even though I was choosing the document setting and b&w. Now it won't let me scan at all. I went to the HP site, where it suggested I download the latest driver. I did that and still no luck. I keep getting a 1706 error, whatever that is.

(Regrowing the dilithium crystals didn't help either) Smile

A perusal of Yahoo Answers reveals that there are a lot of problems when it comes to scanning with Vista. Is Windows 7 better, does anyone know?

I just want to load my doc into the feeder, choose the destination and file name, hit scan and be done with it.
